Iowa State University is pleased to welcome Christian Wise to the Campus Life Community as the Director of ISU Dining effective January 4,2023.

Wise has over twenty years of higher education experience and has worked in the food service industry for over thirty. He has held nearly every position in the restaurant realm including executive chef, proprietor, and director.  Wise has earned a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy from University of Missouri-Columbia (1984), a J.D.  from Syracuse University (1989), several culinary certificates, and a graduate diploma in Gastronomie from Université of Reims-Champagne/Ardenne (2012).

“Christian brings a tremendous wealth of skills and experiences that will serve our students and community incredibly well,” said Pete Englin, Associate Vice President for Campus Life and Director of Residence.

Some of Wise’s prior experience involves working with departments and offices regarding sustainability, efforts toward eliminating food insecurity on campus, celebrating diverse cultures, creating demonstrations and lectures for academic instruction, and providing safe, comfortable places to eat.

Wise will oversee the operation of Iowa State’s campus dining system which includes three residential dining centers, multiple cafés, convenience stores, restaurants, GET & GO locations, a food court, catering, a central production bakery, distribution, and more.

“We are excited to welcome Christian to the ISU Dining team and look forward to building on our success and continuing to serve our students in the best way possible,” said Karen Rodekamp, Associate Director of Engagement and Co-Interim Dining Director. She and Stuart Essex have served as Co-Interim Directors of ISU Dining since Mohamed Ali’s departure in March 2022.
